Welcome to OT Kay’s Imaginative Play!

Offering weekly camps targeting handwriting, social-emotional and executive functioning skills. Additionally, I offer a limited amount of occupational therapy evaluations/sessions that take place within the home and community settings.

Hi, I’m OT Kay! (Kathryn Windisch)

I am an occupational therapist (OT) who has worked in school and outpatient clinic settings and a Mom of 3 incredible children!

My mission is to foster the ultimate creative and imaginative play experience while children learn a variety of skills that encourage participation and independence within their daily living skills, school skills, and social-emotional skills. Play opportunities (especially outdoor and free play) continue to decline. There is growing evidence it is impacting children in a variety of ways throughout their day.

In my history as an occupational therapist I have been drawn to groups as I have seen several benefits that is why I am offering weekly camp groups for three different areas of development (handwriting, social-emotional regulation, and executive functioning skills in relation to school readiness). When pairing children in groups they receive a social interaction component, learning to work as a team, and teaching each other new skills.

  • Occupational Therapy Evaluations & Sessions
    – Coming Soon! (Summer 2025) a limited amount of evaluation requests, and occupational therapy sessions within the home setting and or community settings.
  • I offer a holistic, child-led and family-centered approach to provide tailored, motivating challenges for children to feel comfortable exploring and learning through play and fun!
  • Pre-writing & Handwriting Summer Camps – Now accepting week long pre-writing and handwriting summer camps. Camps are facilitated by an occupational therapist, but are not considered occupational therapy.

Why Imaginative Play?

Participating in imaginative play helps children learn a wide array of skills including play schemes, problem-solving, gross motor and fine motor skills, social and emotional development.

I regularly hear from parents and school officials that children are being exposed to technology at earlier ages than in previous generations and that screen time has been prioritized over imaginative play.

Research continues to show the benefits of imaginative play and how crucial it is to let a child learn through play within natural environments. Through free play children learn intrinsic motivation (what gives them joy), learn how to make friends and experience a variety of emotions, and learn important life skills.

What are your memories of imaginative play?

Can you imagine yourself zooming into space on your bike or playing dress-up pretending to be your favorite role model? Did you have fun drawing with chalk on sidewalks? Maybe you loved to play outdoor games with neighborhood kids learning how to coordinate your body with hopscotch, jump rope, tag or did you enjoy being a part of a community through team sports?

Consider how those play experiences have shaped you as an adult. These are all powerful interactions and experiences that can help build and shape healthy communication skills and positive attitudes for young kids.

Each week-long camp incudes five one-hour sessions and focuses on skill areas facilitated by an occupational therapist, but are not considered occupational therapy services.

Camps will include 2-3 participants total to ensure each child receives personalized guidance.

Sessions will take place in public spaces like parks and local libraries with consistency for the same location prioritized. Spaces are subject to availability.

Each week-long camp is $250 dollars for a minimum of 5 sessions. Payments must be made prior to the start of sessions.

Refunds will not be given for missed days, however, an online activity will be available for parent/family and child engagement at home.

Pre-writing & Handwriting Summer Camps
Learning Without Tears (formerly Handwriting Without Tears programming) will be used to guide camp sessions. This multi-sensory based program to help pre-writers and writers of all ages.
Executive functioning
Camps
Executive functioning camps will be split into two age groups elementary age children focusing on foundational skills such as but not limited to emotional control, flexibility, attention, task initiation and middle school aged children focusing on more advance skills such as but not limited to planning, organization, and time management/prioritizing skills. Coming soon! Interested? please email to get on the wait list.
Social-Emotional Regulation
Camps
Children will be introduced and exposed to a variety of programs and materials to assist with identifying emotions, interoception state, actions when in different emotions and strategy ideas to get back to calm state. In my opinion one program is not a one size fits all. Children are all different in how they learn and what is motivating to them so it is important to not limit a child to one program. Coming soon!
